From my P.O.V.(point of view)...

Each of us have a different tolerence limit ...For Edna, it is difficult for for her to separate her real persona from the real world. I bet Edna's persona outside is less brutal. If Edna and Leonce can keep reminding themselves of the different tolerance limits that OTHER people have then their marriage wont be put in jeopardy. They would feel that the world will be a nicer place to be in. It would be easier to carry on their relationship as husband and wife. Then their greetings would then be acknowledged in the best possible response. It keeps the camaraderie alive. Opinions from both of them could be taken with lots of tolerance. Hot discussions flow among cool heads gracefully. Argument done with healthy airs. Right for an opinion be respected and guarded although one may chose not to agree with opinions put forth. I don't think Edna and Leonce really find it's difficult for them to separate their internal persona from the real world." In time of arguments/discussions people just want to keep up with the flow. It is just a matter of having differences in opinions. Keeping cool heads can save the day. Then Edna and Leonce would be just fine... but it does not happen the way I imagine. What a waste.... Actually, I just want to add my 2 sens worth here while finding the points to start my position paper.

Thinking process....Drafting the 5 points

I am still thinking on how to start my assignment. Now that I have got myself a thesis statement but I am having a bit diffilculty on what to write first.... Should I introduce the author and make comments about her writing or I straight start with the protagonist and argues about it .... Well, the given example in the module is just an example... May be... that is the way that person want to present his idea... We are certainly free to write about our thoughts as it is our own thesis. I think I will discuss with my tutor about this first. I will show her my thesis statement and my first draft.... p/s Hope she will say that i am on the right track.... hmmm(sigh) Till we meet again ......

Some points to ponder....

What is right is always right.....

I am going to discuss Edna's awakening which is to her is a rightful act...once she came to self-realization, Edna had the courage to act on her own desires regardless of the consequences. Before the awakening, Edna is only a lifeless conformer to society’s rituals. Under the normal assumption, a woman’s survival was based on marrying well and having children. Mechanically she does so, only to regret that she realizes that she did not have choice. She laments and longs for freedom and love.

Hmm just what had happened to me recently....

I attended an NST's NIE programme yesterday. There was a lady teacher who
participated in one of the workshops. She constructed a sentence that goes -
"The camel stores water in its hump."

The workshop facilitator pointed out that camels dont store water in their hump. The hump is for storing fat.

The lady teacher was very annoyed. She insisted that the sentence be
accepted in toto because it was grammatically correct. The facilitator refused,
saying that as a teacher, she must always get the fact right first before they
even look at the nuances of the language.

Furthermore, the facilitator knew that the workshop materials would be used by participating teachers as a teaching primer for students when those teachers return to their respective schools. Thus, this teacher's students may well assume that camels store water in their hump because their teacher say so.

The lady teacher was adamant about the correctness of the sentence construction and refused to budge. The facilitator was equally adamant about getting the fact right first before proceeding. Hmmm ...the impasse has yet to be broken.......

As for my opinion,

"The lady teacher was adamant about the correctness of the
sentence construction and refused to budge." Well... she must be an English
teacher, so it is only right for her to defend the correct grammar of that
sentence. But anyway, so wat if the hump of the camel stores water. You wouldnt
like to explain to a primary kid that "fat, which will later be converted into
glucose which will then serve as an energy source for the camel when there is no
food." and the kid will thought, "The camel is so thin, where got fat?" These
kids will find out the real truth I am quite sure, when they enter a higher
level in their education. I don't blame the teacher though..

The same goes with Edna, later in life, she dares to look deep within her spirit to determine the type of woman she really was, facing all her doubts and imperfections. Edna demonstrates her bravery early by defying her father and marrying Leonce. She does not behave as a traditional woman would in those times.

Why on earth do married people have affairs? I am not limiting myself to married men here although their number is greater compared to married women having affairs. Many cite unhappy marriages as a reason to having extra-marital relationships.

I have never been fuzzy about this. If you have an unhappy marriage, why don't you try to make it happy? and if you can't (or won't), why don't you leave?

Edna took a realistic look at her faults and unconsciously compared herself to two very different role models in her life. Her marriage began in an act of defiance against her father and ended in an act of defiance against society as a whole. Edna’s vow to control her own life was uncompromising even through her own death. .... Nice words...and sentences... now I can start reorganizing my thoughts orderly...

A part of learning..... totally embarrased

Correct Pronunciation

I wince each time I hear English words being incorrectly pronounced. But I have accidently pronounced Pontellier as "PON TE LIAR".... during my class ....arghhh I am so embarrassed. Not just once but more than twice untill my tutor couldnt take it anymore... She laughed to her heart content... May be this what people used to say...making a mistake is a part of learning.

I am not ashamed to say that I correct my students each time they make such mistakes, so much so that they become very aware of the importance of correct pronunciation.

This morning , my friend at school asked me, "How do you pronounce QUIXOTE?"

I remember those days when I was young, I pronounced it as kuizot. That's typical of me, then I also pronounce "debut" as dibat, actually its pronounced as day beu.

So I told my her , its pronounced as key ho tay.

QUIXOTE is a name of a person, but now has become an english word QUIXOTIC pronounced as key sot tik.

QUIXOTIC means extravagantly chivalrous or romantic; visionary, impractical, or impracticable. (Source: The Random House College Dictionary)

Some teachers at my school, have "sambil lewa' attitude towards pronunciation. They couldn't care less whether they got it right or not. This should not be the case. If in doubt - ask. never be too proud to ask.

Silent alphabets are the culprit most times, for example SUBTLE.. I have heard many people pronouncing the silent "b" far too often. Foreign words assimilated into English also can play havoc with one's pronounciation. They may be part of the English language, but they still maintain their originality. Thus they should be properly pronounced as they would in their respective tongues.

PS: I used to pronounce Alfonso d'Albuqueque as Alfonso di Albukuekue and Don Quixote as Don Kisot. The teachers were no better..they didnt correct me either.

Actually, today we are suppose to read out our position paper's draft... I am happy because I went just what I expected. Superb ...except the pronouncing part...lol

Just a thought....2

Pity huh...."Edna silly decision"

Back to her reality though: I believe she is unsure if she wants that one true love (supposedly Robert) or if she just wants anyone who will pay her a little attention and is fun (supposedly Alcee Arobin).

Edna wants to be Wild and Free, not saying that there is anything wrong with that, but she needs to recognize it for what it is because she is really fooling herself.

Edna’s husband is looking for the all devoted wife and mother and Edna is looking for anything that’s not conforming. She is a young woman who is full of dreams and emotions. She has an extreme sexual desire, indolence romance, and desire for adventure. For instance, "Edna began to feel like one who awakens gradually out of a dream (Chopin 53)." Due to Robert Lebrun’s presence, Edna begins to assert herself to her husband..

As we all know that, freedom is control of self. It is a mental condition of the spirit. The essence of our "self" is our mind, soul and spirit. All of us are free, but we choose to acknowledge it. We all are always free to change our thoughts, improve our knowledge, understanding and change our attitudes and beliefs-the inner part of each of us....

The process of writing this position paper is making me enjoying every parts of the story and the arguments I created....Lol... Now I have a few points to elaborate...but I will not condemned Edna's foolish decision... but I want to write about Edna's feelings.... and what made her to act such a way...

Still searching....

Hi Hello...again I have not started with my
assignments yet. I need to understand the literary work that I am required to put in my research paper. I need to focus my state of mind on single issues or character. Errr....I may be wrong about this....

Am I???????????

Aha... I got the idea!...For the research paper I need to focus on implication of certain literary text or authors for education. Actually I think I need to read and reread in order to have a better understanding of the required research paper. .

I need to read the modul briefly.... AGAIN!!!!! ..............Opps.... position
paper first my goodness.. BLUR!!!!

Just a thought....1

Love her style......

After going through the novel again and again , I think that Kate Chopin had a style all her own. I have read her other novel, The Storm which also have the same theme I am going to use in my postion paper. Among the American female writers in the U.S. back in the late 1800s, I really admired her courage to write such novels. In all her novels and esppecially this novel The Awakening, I noticed that she used symbolism throughout the novel in order to convey Edna’s, the protagonist’s changing attitudes, also defining her as a character, and to foreshadow important events and moods. This symbolism makes this novel richer with meaning and reveals Chopin as a masterful storyteller. Wahh ... she really good man.

Testing ....testing 1, ..2, .. 3,..

Starting mood.....

Hello again.... After going through my notes done on 18th December 2005 during my first face to face session... at last I have made up my mind on what I am going to write for my 1st assignment for Dr Malachi. I have choosen Kate Chopin, 'The Awakening'. The story is based on self-realization and the struggles a woman faces as she comes into her self during a time period in which her change is unacceptable. Wish me luck. .... I do need that...

EDU 3234

This semester is my final semester. For my course EDU 3234 : Readings and Projects Work for Teaching Literature in ESL Contexts I am required to build up my own BLOG. During my college years , I am exposed to journal writing. I am not keen on writing a journal at all that time. But I did managed to go through it.

As for me, electronic journal is more fun compare to the old version journal. It is something that I am looking forward to do. I love surfing the net. I love it so much. Now by taking this course I am able to read my journal online.... surely it will be an interesting thing to venture. I must send in 20 entries for this course. And my lecturer did remind us to send a minimum of 20 entries during our first face to face on 18th December 2006. My postings should presents my thoughts and reflections in relation to the course work, research and the learning experience throughtout this course. The postings must also related to writing the position paper and research paper.

I will create a blog of my choice and fill it with my personal thoughts and feelings. May be what I have written will be read by anyone from all walks of life. May be someone I know or a totally stranger. They are allowed to send their comments. I am sure I will keep on my blog going even after I have finish this course. I am taking this oppurtunity to express my appreciation to my respectful lecturer Dr Malachi Edwin Vethamani.... without him I wont be here writing and having my own blog. It is something new to me and I cant wait to learn more on how to make my blog more interesting and unique...

Setting up a blog is quite simple. The popular
MSN Spaces, for example, will let you have your own blog up and running at no cost in literally a few minutes. Reading my coursemate's blog, most of them are telling how troublesome they have went through to start their blog. I found that it is weird because there are shown on the webpage step by step on blog creating and they are simple to follow the instructions.

I think that is all for now ....
